Project description

The primary aim of this study is to identify LULUCF (Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry) measures that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhance carbon sequestration while assessing their socio-economic and environmental impacts. By analysing the effects of these measures, the study aims to provide critical insights to support policymakers in formulating evidence-based, knowledge-driven policies that balance environmental sustainability with socio-economic needs. The socio-economic implications of five scenarios for achieving LULUCF targets under the National Energy and Climate Plan will be analysed.

The second objective is to develop an interactive framework for simulating the implementation of various measures and evaluating their impacts on net GHG emissions, employment, and habitat quality. This will involve creating algorithms to model the complementary or mutually exclusive effects of these measures, as well as variations in their implementation scale. A geospatial visualization tool will be designed, starting with a test version and progressing to a finalized version. Additionally, the study will assess the feasibility of aggregating impact results at the regional level.
