The project aims to generate new scientific knowledge to comprehensively evaluate the economic and multidisciplinary impact of traditional bioeconomy sectors—agriculture, forestry, food, wood processing, and fisheries – within the framework of the Latvian Bioeconomy Strategy 2030 (LIBRA). The research focuses on assessing LIBRA's implementation and its contributions to strengthening Latvia’s economy, while providing innovative, science-based policy recommendations for interdisciplinary strategies to achieve growth and sustainability.
Key tasks include: (1) Critical Assessment: Evaluating the outcomes of LIBRA's implementation. (2) Economic Forecasting: Analyzing Latvia’s economic trajectory in line with LIBRA dynamics. (3) Case Analyses: Exploring topics such as biogas production from agricultural biomass, economic and ecological values of forests, EU CAP non-agricultural support impacts, structural needs of the blue bioeconomy, and the role of research and innovation in bioeconomy development. (4) Policy Recommendations: Developing actionable strategies for policymakers to drive economic growth and sustainability.
The findings will guide evidence-based decision-making to enhance Latvia’s bioeconomy.
