The research investigates the overall potential impact of the European Green Deal on Latvia's agricultural sector, focusing on both direct and indirect effects. It begins with a structured analysis of the European Green Deal, examining the policy initiatives it comprises and evaluating their significance for Latvia’s agriculture. This analysis is complemented by insights from the SKDS survey on public perceptions of the Green Deal.
The study assesses the direct impact of achieving the European Green Deal’s 2030 agricultural targets on Latvian agriculture through model simulations of the farming sector. Additionally, it explores the indirect effects of meeting Green Deal goals in other non-agricultural sectors on agriculture.
Future scenarios are developed to project how the European Union's agricultural production sector might evolve under the Green Deal and to define Latvia’s potential role within this framework. The research concludes with actionable recommendations for policymakers to navigate these changes effectively.
