Project description

This study aims to evaluate the impact of changes in VAT rate on fruit and vegetable prices in Latvian retail chains. Starting in December 2017, monthly price monitoring will be conducted in several Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian retail chains to compare price trends in the fruit and vegetable sector across the Baltic region.

The project involves key tasks such as preparing a detailed list of fruits and vegetables for monitoring, identifying retail shops for data collection, and developing a robust price monitoring methodology. Data will be collected monthly and analyzed to compare pricing trends across the three countries.

The study’s findings will include a comprehensive analysis of price changes and their implications, along with recommendations for policymakers. These insights aim to enhance understanding of the effects of VAT law adjustments on the fruit and vegetable market, supporting evidence-based decision-making for future policy development.
