Project description

The achievement of the climate and environmental objectives set by the European Union depends on how successfully and to what extent measures reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are implemented in practice, as well as on how their impact is assessed and monitored. The project analyses Latvia's agricultural potential for moving towards decarbonization using the Marginal Abatement Cost Curve (MACC) as a convenient tool for assessing the effectiveness of various measures to reduce GHG emissions and planning climate policy. Project focus on developing the MACC methodology and incorporating the value of ecosystem services into the evaluation of GHG, ammonia emission reduction and CO2 sequestration measures, as well as developing additional variations in the MACC curves for assessing the cost-effectiveness of GHG and ammonia emission reduction measures developed so far, reflecting different rates of implementation of measures. The target group of the project is agricultural, environmental and climate policy makers and implementers, farmers.
