This project focuses on assessing the implementation of the EU Green Deal requirements in the transport sector, specifically regarding round timber and woodchip transport. It evaluates existing and forthcoming regulations, analysing strategic documents on climate and energy policies in both EU and Latvian contexts. The study investigates compliance readiness among timber truck manufacturers represented in Latvia and explores future low-emission and zero-emission vehicle offerings up to 2035.
Additionally, it examines the availability and development plans for refueling and recharging infrastructure, assessing their adequacy for Latvia's needs. Technical and environmental evaluations of various engine types – diesel, modern biofuels, LNG, CNG, hydrogen, and electric – are conducted, including life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions analyses.
The project delivers a comprehensive synthesis of results, mapping implementation timelines from 2022 to 2035. It also includes a risk analysis of potential barriers and sanctions if compliance with regulatory requirements fails, offering alternative pathways to meet emission reduction targets efficiently and sustainably.
