Project description

Manufacturing in the food sector generates various wastes and by-products that require integrated management. This project emphasizes external reuse and recyclability applications through an industrial symbiosis guide, focusing on cleaner production and effective environmental management. Local environmental issues can escalate to regional problems, necessitating broader collaboration. Given that food production is a significant sector in Europe, it significantly impacts the national economies and their export potential. International cooperation among food producers is essential for maintaining product quality and effective supply chain management. Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement, there is a collective commitment to reduce carbon emissions. However, reliance on fossil fuels in the global food system increases GHG emissions and costs. The project utilizes a multidisciplinary team to enhance research in integrated waste management, employing a pollution prevention ladder approach to promote zero waste in the food sector.
