Project description

The need for the study is determined by a number of topicalities that highlight issues topical for agricultural production and land use in the context of the challenges posed by climate change – raising awareness of measures to reduce GHG emissions and their cost-effectiveness, about the move towards carbon-neutral agriculture, about the efficiency of agricultural production and its impact on GHG emissions. The project objective has been set to address these developments: to assess carbon removals and storage possibilities in Latvia and integrate them into the cost curve of the marginal reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of Latvia's agriculture. This study updated the MACC for GHG emission reduction measures for agriculture developed as part of the national research programme EVIDEnT, and added two new measures. Also, within the framework of the project, an analysis of 23 measures was carried out, showing their impact in both the agricultural and LULUCF sectors.
