Project description

The aim of the project is to raise the economic efficiency of production in the agricultural industry through using legumes produced domestically and to assess the possibilities for replacing imported feedstuffs with the legumes. The acquired know-how on the economic gains from the production of legumes and the consumption of the legumes in livestock farming will be suggested for application in agricultural production and in agricultural product processing. The project is a fundamental research study in the field of agro-biotechnology for legumes, to make a considerable scientific contribution in respect to the economic efficiency of legumes produced in Latvia and used for feed for agricultural animals, to perform an economic assessment of reducing the share of imported protein-rich feedstuffs in feed consumption by replacing the imported feedstuffs with domestically produced legumes as well as to conduct a dietary experiment on deer in order to economic gains from feeding the deer diets comprising legumes in conjunction with changes in the amount of protein absorbed by the deer organism and in the amount of potential nitrogen emissions produced.
