SUSTAINABILITY-CENTRED BUSINESS
AND SOCIETY RESEARCH GROUP

Sustainability in business and society is defined by the pursuit of long-term value that balances economic performance with environmental integrity and social responsibility. It is about reshaping how organisations operate, how markets function, and how societies thrive in ways that respect planetary boundaries and promote human well-being. Businesses and social systems are not isolated entities—they are deeply interconnected with ecological systems, cultural values, governance structures, and ethical frameworks. Our sustainability-centred business and society research group investigates how organisations, industries, and economic systems can transition toward more sustainable models. We address key issues such as corporate sustainability strategies, responsible production, green innovation, ethical business practices, social entrepreneurship, solutions for social problems, digitalization, and stakeholder engagement. Rooted in social science perspectives, we analyse the evolving relationship between business and society in the face of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and resource depletion. Building on the university’s tradition of interdisciplinary research, our group brings together expertise from economics, management, sociology, philosophy, and education studies. Our mission is to develop research-based insights that support more just, transparent, and future-oriented business practices. We work closely with businesses, policymakers, NGOs, and civil society to co-create knowledge and solutions that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable development goals (SDGs). We place special emphasis on the role of values, organisational culture, and stakeholder dialogue in driving transformation. We believe that sustainable business is not just about technical fixes or efficiency gains—it is about fostering new mindsets, governance models, and social contracts that align economic activity with the broader needs of people and the planet.
