SustainAgri FinTech is a postdoctoral research project aimed at developing an innovative IT/mobile application prototype (at least TRL2 level) designed for farmers. The application will support the assessment of sustainable agricultural practices by integrating smart digital tools, life cycle assessment, and ESG criteria - alongside sustainable financing instruments - to deliver tailored recommendations and identify funding opportunities for farm development.
The tool will also provide an integrated framework to identify and evaluate various sustainable agricultural practices, with customized recommendations, as well as evaluation tools for sustainability.
Integrating various sustainable financing instruments, thus, encourages informed decision-making at the farm level. The project is in line with Latvia's RIS3 aim to promote a knowledge-intensive bioeconomy in Economics and Business, and it will draw on the experiences of other countries and Latvia, including their case studies.
SustainAgri FinTech is a border-crosser project incorporating environmental science, agricultural economics, sustainability assessment, financial technology, and social science. Such a mix allows the project to tackle the multifaceted challenges of transforming agricultural systems into more sustainable and resilient ones. The launch of the framework is planned as a flexible solution that could be used by various stakeholders in the future who are in need of tools for assessing sustainability transitions and creating actionable recommendations.
