Evaluation of land use optimization opportunities in Latvia in the context of climate policy Source of funding Latvia's State Forests Scientific leader Aleksejs Nipers Results Project results Duration 2016-2019 Budget 123 827 EUR Project description This project provides in-depth analysis of the productive land use in Latvia and methodological framework of indicator system for different land use functions. Within the project spatial land use LANDUP model for is elaborated. Model is covering all agricultural and forest land in Latvia and includes 9.8 millions agricultural land polygons and 2.8 millions forest land polygons. The model makes possible to evaluate and to make future projections of the land use related socioeconomic impact, impact on habitat quality, and on GHG emissions / CO2 sequestration in agriculture and LULUCF sectors. Different land use scenarios are analysed. Based on research results, conceptual proposals for more efficient and rational agricultural land and forestland use are provided.
